History of the Children and Youth Services Council
1979 – 1982
Coordinating Council formed with representatives from Mental Health Clinic, Probation, Binghamton Psychiatric Center and NYS Division For Youth
1982 – 1983
Task Force formed by County Executive to review and report on youth needs. Report issues 1984.
1982 – 1985
Members of previous groups formed the Mental Health Task Force. Focus on case discussion, inter-agency communication and needs assessment.
1983 – 1984
Institutional Placement Prevention Task Force formed by DSS Commissioner, to study out of home placements. Produced an extensive analytical report.
1986 – 2005
The Council continued in its work of advocating for a comprehensive and coordinated youth services delivery system.
2006-present
Several strategic planning sessions took place to determine the future focus of the Council. As a result, Children and Youth Services Council joined forces with the Forum For Youth Investment to present the framework of Ready By 21 (C) to Broome County.
Ready by 21
